Drop Box

I am using Mac Air 11inch which has small capacities available.

I have lots of assignments that make my MacAir always run out of more spaces.

I am always back-uping my all assignments to USB, GoogleDoc, NYU Email,
however
I still feel that it is not enough.

Recently, I introduced from my friends, there is Drop Box and a lot of students recently use this.

For the person, like me, I am introducing Drop Box!!

Dropbox description:

Dropbox lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Access any file you save to your Dropbox from all your computers, iPhone, iPad and even the Dropbox website!

It is available in Iphone, Ipod touch, iPad, and Android.....!!!!

Dropbox from Wikipedia.org
: I took only description part and Technology part !! (hoped and tried to understand)

Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc., that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and client software. Dropbox allows users to create a special folder on each of their computers, which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder (with the same contents) regardless of which computer is used to view it. Files placed in this folder also are accessible through a website and mobile phone applications.

Dropbox, Inc., was founded in 2007 by MIT students Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi, as a Y Combinator startup company.

Dropbox provides client software for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS and web browsers, as well as unofficial ports to Symbian, Windows Phone and MeeGo.

Technology

Both the Dropbox server and desktop client software are primarily written in Python. The desktop client uses GUI toolkits such as wxWidgets and Cocoa. Other notable Python libraries include Twisted, ctypes, and pywin32. Dropbox ships and depends on the librsync binary-delta library (which is written in C).

The Dropbox client enables uses to drop any file into a designated folder that is then synchronized with Dropbox's Internet service and to any other of the user's computers and devices with the Dropbox client.
Users may also upload files manually through a web browser.

Dropbox client supports synchronization and sharing along with personal storage. It supports revision history, so files deleted from the Dropbox folder may be recovered from any of the synced computers. Dropbox supports multi-user version control, enabling several users to edit and re-post files without overwriting versions. The version history is by default kept for 30 days, with an unlimited version called "Pack-Rat" available for purchase.

The version history is paired with the use of delta encoding technology. When a file in a user's Dropbox folder is changed, Dropbox only uploads the pieces of the file that are changed when synchronizing, when possible.

Dropbox uses Amazon's S3 storage system to store the files; though Houston has started that Dropbox may switch to a different storage provider at some point in the future. It also uses SSL transfers for synchronization and stores the data via AES-256 encryption, though this is done with Dropbox's own encryption keys, and not the users'.

Dropbox also provides a technology called LANSync, which allows computers on a local area network to securely download files locally from each other instead of always hitting the central servers. LANSync was developed by Dropbox Engineer Paul Bohm.

Social Networking

This time of era, People could not think about their lives without Technologies.

Especially,

Cellphones and Computers are not an option anymore.

Everyone has it and Everyone should get benefits from it.

They are not even just "Technologies"

They are one of Fashion, too.

Mac, Iphone, Galaxy...........  People buy these not only because of accessibility but also because of prettiness

Another Flow almost everyone do is, Social Networking System.

Facebook, Twitters, and Cyworld (Korean one) are the examples of Social Networking System.

Using these are very enjoyable

great for international students like me,

because I could know friends and family's status, and easily keep in touch.

However, I sometimes felt this Social Network is very dangerous for some reasons.

So I looked up PROS and CONS about FACEBOOK in the Internet.

Like

Registering on the site is an extremely smooth process.

You would feel right at home with the uncluttered UI of the site.

It transcends all physical boundaries, and lets you connect with long-lost friends and distant family.

If you choose to do so, you could share your thoughts and even post photographs of events in your daily life.

The site offers you the freedom to choose whom you would like to share your 'updates' with.

You can stay updated with all the current affairs of the world.

You can be well informed about what goes on in the lives of the people who are close to you,
but are separated by physical boundaries.

You can interact with people with similar thoughts and ideas across the globe.

You can even choose to be a part of groups with people who have a common cause or concern, or merely just a similar interest.

The site provides you with a virtual time-line of your life through your Facebook updates over the years.

The site gives you an opportunity to express yourself, and be heard.

Facebook also serves as an excellent platform to message and even video chat with your friends.

The many online games that are a part of the website, let you unwind and even promote social interaction with their many multiplayer functions.

You can watch and share your favorite videos and photographs.

You can 'promote' your product or even your updates if you choose to do so with other users. You can even choose your target audience, based on their interests, genders, age, geographic region, and even the kind of device they use to log on to the site.

You can even organize events, and gather people for them rather effortlessly with the events application on FB.

While this may sound like stating the obvious, the biggest pro for Facebook is the fact that it offers all these features for free (apart from the apps on sale at the FB Marketplace).

Unlike

⊗ Although a lot has been done to improve the site's security, it still has a lot of loopholes. Privacy is a major concern for most Facebook users, and you need to take care to see who you share your social feeds with.

⊗ You can be bombarded with updates about things that don't really interest you or are of your concern; these could be updates about your acquaintances or even about the pages that people in your friends list may randomly like.

⊗ Often there seems to be very little that separates your personal life from your social life.

⊗ The freedom of expression on 'FB' is often misused and many a time abused by people who seem to be virtually living on the site.

⊗ There is always the possibility of identity theft on the site.

⊗ There are loads of fake and bogus accounts on the site, with people looking to steal your personal information.

⊗ The games and the site itself can be very addictive.

⊗ In spite of the many security settings in place, your images can still be misused.

⊗ There have also been several instances of online stalkers.

⊗ You might often need to be the witness to unnecessary dramatization of even the pettiest of things in people's lives.

⊗ The frequent updates, although meant to improve the overall user experience, also means that you need to update your security settings often to keep up with the changes.

⊗ Of late there has been a rise in the number of commercial adverts on the website, which can be quite annoying, and hampers the overall user experience.

My opinion
is

Take Advantage of Things what you can get,

but

Don't be controlled by things that are not above you.

Language Exchange

As one of International students
who struggle with and suffer from language problem,

I often think how I can develop my english better,

especially SPEAKING and WRITING.

I searched in the Internet and thought
about possibilities that would finally work,

the conclusion is obviously and simply,

Practice Everyday, do not give up, jump into the english.
( I know it, know it, know it, but constantly frustrated by this)

For one method,

one of my friends told me there is something called "Language Exchange"
- people meet up and  exchange of teaching their language.

I looked up few sites about Language Exchange

I think I could use Language Exchange for enhancing my english better.

However,

Got a feeling that I have to be little careful with this.

Maybe not everyone is interested in exchanging language.

Project Teach: Volunteering

One of my acquaintances does volunteering work

at "Project TEACH."

As a students of Music Education,

I felt obligated to introduce this great association.

Project TEACH is a Korean Non-profit Association that is

aiming for resolving unequal opportunities of Education.

They assert that True Education: Anything can happen.

-Recruiting domestic/international mentors who share our vision

-Holding mentor-mentee relationship-based summer camps

 for children from low-income backgrounds

-Establishing a balanced education and relationship

 between mentors and students

-To gather college students, graduate students, and anyone who is

dedicated to solving the problems in today’s education system to share

their wealth in knowledge and talent.

-To allow mentors-mentees to both benefit through learning from each

other and develop an understanding of people from different backgrounds.

-To contribute to the education of children by solving the inequality in

educational opportunities caused by income gaps

between families and those of districts.

-To redefine the true meaning of education by emphasizing

the importance of nurturing basic human values

rather than college admissions and test scores.

Music file

I am almost finishing up my second semester of Music Education at NYU

Surprisingly,

What oftentimes I struggle with is getting materials or ideas.

It is a matter of cultural differences, too,

but also I am not master of searching something in the Internet.

Getting the articles, Music, Music file, References are the crucial things

that I really need to do better for the sake of me.

Among them, I found great website for saving my time and for using my future class.

http://www.snipmp3.com

If you are struggling with finding music sources other than youtube video,
and
you really need audio files,

1. find youtube video

2. copy the address

3. go to snipmp3.com

4. type the address

5. you get a mp3 audio file!!

I can't wait for other groups' presentations!

How their ideas are like,
How they prepare and do it!
What technologies they use for presentation!

One thing I worried about the presentation is,

I am still !! having problems with technologies!!!!!
It is taking centuries to be done one work. However, I am enjoying it.

Anyways,
so grateful to decide to take this class :)
